Foster Care and Childwelfare

Foster Care and Childwelfare

Excelsior provides comprehensive child welfare services to youth and families. All services are available to both male and female youth.

Therapeutic Foster Care
&
In-Home BRS Services

Excelsior offers Therapeutic Foster Care as a placement option and extended resource for identified youth exiting the residential program. Youth exiting the residential program may still need structure, treatment and positive support. We train foster parents to help youth continue to improve their emotional and behavioral functioning.

Excelsior also provides in-home services to youth and families that need a group care respite option. This allows the family system to access respite services for the youth either planned or emergent.

Excelsior offers their foster homes support services including:

  • Individual and family counseling
  • Case management
  • Liaison with community schools
  • On-going training
  • Professional Consultation
  • Supervision
  • 24-hour crisis intervention
  • Respite services for youth and the parents
  • Referrals to community providers
  • Medical care when appropriate

Long-Term BRS Residential

Each resident receives individual mental health counseling from a master’s level clinician. A Mental Health Professional also serves as a Milieu Coordinator. Each unit is staffed with a highly qualified CDP-Case manager to provide substance use services according to individual and group needs. These clinicians also serve as the resident’s case manager and can facilitate family counseling, group therapy, parenting support, consultation, referrals to other program’s services and resource assistance. Clinicians also regularly meet with Excelsior’s Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FPMHNP) and consulting psychologist who aid in evaluation, assessment and medication management if applicable.

BRS Interim Care –Assessment

Interim Care services focus on comprehensive assessment and providing the Department relevant placement recommendations. Services may also be used to assist a youth during a placement transitions or other unique circumstances.

Extended Foster-Care Services

Youth who turn 18 are eligible to reside at Excelsior and under the care of the Department in the Extended Foster Care (EFC) program. Excelsior works with EFC youth to practice independent living skills, pursue post-secondary education and establish independence.
