Co-Occurring Intensive Outpatient (Co-IOP)

What is Co-IOP?

Co-Occurring Intensive Outpatient is designed for youth 10-21 who have a mental health concern and substance use concern.

Components

  • Person-centered Treatment Plan
  • Evaluation and Assessment

Services

  • Individual Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Therapeutic Recreation
  • Care Coordination
  • Psychiatric Medication Evaluation
  • Psychiatric Medication Management

The program offers three stages of services:

Stage-1 consists of in-depth assessments in the areas of Mental Health, Substance Use, Medication Management, Family and Community Support, and Therapeutic Recreation. Stage-1 also includes comprehensive service and crisis support plan development. Excelsior’s program length is based solely on stabilization and several types of treatment groups are utilized to provide a holistic approach to treating the whole person, not just mental health or substance use services. Because we offer the program to co-ed 10-21-year-olds, we may separate some group services based on developmental stages and treatment needs.

Stage-2consists of enrollment and attendance in weekly treatment groups. Groups are specialized and co-facilitated by Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Chemical Dependency Professionals. Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Child Mental Health Specialist also facilitate psychotherapeutic recreation groups. Movement to Stage-3 is dependent solely upon progress and stabilization, not a set number of days.

Stage-3 represents the maintenance stage and includes a tapered treatment frequency. This stage also encourages individuals to engage in peer mentoring for Stage-1 and 2 individuals. Continued crisis support, aftercare, medication management, family support and coordination of care are all continued during this stage.
